NEWS: Another award for Brian Turner
Fresno State alumnus Brian Turner won his second major award of 2006 when he recently took home the Northern California Book Award in poetry.
Turner’s first poetry collection, Here, Bullet, has won critical acclaim across the country for its vivid portrayal of the Iraq war. In 2005, the book won the Beatrice Hawley Award from Alice James Books, and was a New York Times Editor’s Choice selection; in 2006, the NCBA award has now been added to the Maine Literacy Award.
Turner earned his MA degree from Fresno State and an MFA from the University of Oregon. He has been giving readings all over the country in support of the book, including a stop here on campus to read with fellow alumnus Blas Manuel De Luna this past March.
